Our Courses: Diploma in Therapeutic Massage: Content
Anatomy & Physiology of the Human Body
It is absolutely imperative that individuals performing massage understand what they are working with – i.e. the human body. No one would let would let a person service their car unless they were a qualified car mechanic, in the same way, no one should work on the body unless they understand how it works and the way it may be affected by what they do.
Therefore we offer a full Anatomy and Physiology course as part of Dip.TM. This is studied as 5 modules and covers the cellular. tissue, organ, system and holistic levels on which the body works. Studies then focus on the skeletal, muscular, integumentary (skin) cardiovascular, lymphatic, respiratory, nervous, endocrine, digestive, urinary, reproductive and immune systems.
Massage Theory
It is important to understand why and how massage works, and how it can be used to the best effect for certain clients. Thus, students must study this aspect, which covers the role of the massage practitioner, consultation skills, health & safety requirements, legal requirements for practice, code of ethics, preparation for treatment, body mechanics and posture, effects and uses of specific movements, contra-indications and special care situations,
Massage Practical
Students learn a specific sequence to give a full body massage. They also learn sequences for individual body parts and how to adapt massage for therapeutic effect on particular individuals.
The course is assessed by continual assessment each tutorial and an end of course exams in Anatomy & Physiology, Massage Theory and Massage Practical. Students have to submit case studies amounting to 45 treatments. The pass mark in each part is 75%
