Terms, Conditions and Considerations.
Before enrolling on the course please read thoroughly and abide by the terms as laid out here. Note and understand that this is a legally binding contract.
1 APPLICATION AND PAYMENT
- All bookings must be on an official Enrolment/Booking Application Form.
- The deposit is non-refundable under any circumstances and non-transferable.
- Payment of fees will benefit from a discount only in accordance with instructions in the prospectus and received by the dates stated. Late payments will forfeit discounts. Commencement of the course is the date of the ‘Induction Evening’ for the Professional Diploma, and the first Tutorial for Sports/Advanced Remedial courses.
- If paying by instalments for courses in (iii), the completed Mandate must be returned with the total deposit at the time of booking. Accounts will be debited according to the instructions given in the prospectus.
- Please ensure that funds are available to meet Standing Order payments. Falling behind in instalments will be considered as cancellation and will result in withdrawal of the student from the course. If this occurs the student is still liable for the termination/cancellation penalties noted in section 3 below. In addition, the student will be liable for any charges incurred by the School.
- If an organisation is willing to pay a student’s fees, payment must be made in full accompanied by the application form at least two weeks before the commencement of the course. Bookings cannot be guaranteed until payment has been received from the organisation.
- Please note, provisional bookings are not guaranteed (even for previous students). Bookings are only secured by total deposit, on a first-come basis, as spaces are limited.
Only sterling cheques, cash, postal orders, banker’s order or international money orders will be accepted. If you choose to pay by cheque in any other currency, the School reserves the right to refuse the booking. Cheques in any currency other than Sterling may be accepted provided this is negotiated in advance and a fee is paid to cover the School’s bank charges. Payment by credit card cannot be accepted.
2 PERSONAL HEALTH
At the time of enrolment, to your knowledge, you should have no health condition that could be affected or worsened by the requirements of the course for which you are applying, nor are you awaiting hospital admission or taking medication that could be contra-indicated. If in doubt in any aspect please check with your G.P. The School cannot refund fees should you have to terminate the course due to a known health condition becoming worse or a hospital place becoming available.
3 CANCELLATION
- If you have to cancel or terminate due to bereavement of a close family member, or serious ill-health (unknown at the commencement of the course), a doctor’s certificate of inability to continue will be required. Sometimes it is possible to transfer to the next course subject to agreement and conditions. Alternatively, a refund of fees is calculated on the following basis: 20% of tutorial costs refunded on a pro-rata basis. If a refund is made, the School is absolved of any further obligation.
- If you terminate during the course session for any reason other than in (i) above, course fees cannot be refunded. You will be liable for any outstanding fees and in the event of non-payment, the School will instigate legal proceedings.
- For short-courses, full payment must be made if cancellation occurs within one month of the commencement date. Deposits or full refunds will only be returned if a place can be reallocated.
- In the event of the School cancelling a course, all monies paid (including the deposit) will be repaid in full.
4 ATTENDANCE
- Each course carries a 100% attendance requirement. In unforeseen and/or exceptional circumstances where a student misses part of/whole of a Tutorial, it may be possible to negotiate an individual session that will allow the student to ‘catch up’ with any missed practical and theoretical work. This session must occur before the following Tutorial and will incur a fee commensurate with the length of the session required to cover the missed work/assessment. The length of the required session will be determined by the Tutor.
- Attendance for the Emergency First Aid instruction on the Diploma in Therapeutic Massage is mandatory unless the student holds a current First Aid certificate recognised by the School (evidence must be produced).
- For short-courses, 100% attendance is mandatory to obtain certification.
5 NON-ATTENDANCE
-
Where there has been non-attendance any Tutorial, the Tutor must be satisfied that any practical/theoretical/assessment work has been fully completed to the required standard before the following Tutorial. If this does not occur, the student will have been deemed to have withdrawn from the course and conditions under 3 (ii) will apply.
-
If, as a result of exceptional/unforeseen circumstances, a student does not attend the First Aid course (Dip TM) s/he will have to obtain an Emergency First Aid qualification independently before any final award is made.
-
Those students on the Diploma in Sports Massage/Diploma in Remedial Massage must produce evidence of a current, relevant First Aid qualification before any final award is made.
-
The School retains the right to withhold certification until the attendance and/or payment requirements have been met.
6 COURSES THAT INCORPORATE SQA AWARDS
-
For courses that include SQA accreditation, all mandatory in-house performance criteria assessments must be successfully completed, together with the submission of all mandatory homework assignments, projects and case studies by the dates set to ensure the student’s positive result is sent to SQA.
-
In the event that a student has not complied with the above, s/he will be refused entry to the School’s exams and will be deemed to have withdrawn from the course. The conditions under 3 (ii) will then apply.
-
Remediation arrangements must be adhered to. Students will usually be allowed two attempts at assessments. In exceptional circumstances a third attempt will be offered for which a reassessment fee will be due. Failure to satisfactorily meet the criteria after this will result in the withdrawal from the unit(s) and course. The conditions under 3 (ii) will then apply.
7 EXTENSION REQUESTS
Failure to meet assignment submission dates will automatically result in the withdrawal from SQA unit(s) and course without any refund. Extension to assignments will only be granted if extenuating circumstances prevail, e.g. illness or a bereavement of a close family member, where a doctor’s certificate will be required. Please note that holidays, pressure resulting from normal full-time work commitments and the such like, do not constitute reasons for exemption/non-submission of assignments. ALL requests for extensions must be made in advance. The decision for extension will be negotiated with the student and may include other School personnel as appropriate.
8 FAILURE TO PASS THE SCHOOL’S OWN FINAL EXAMINATION
One re-sit opportunity exists. This however, must be taken on scheduled examination dates, thus a period of time may lapse before a re-sit may be taken. If an arrangement for an individual (solo) re-sit is required, a re-sit fee will be payable.
9 REFUSAL/WITHDRAWAL DUE TO BREACH OF PROFESSIONAL CONDUCT/SCHOOL POLICIES
- We reserve the right to refuse an application without reason. Such rare instances will be notified in writing. No other correspondence will be entered into in such circumstances.
- The School reserves the right to expel a student from a course without refund should they not conduct themselves in a professional manner, e.g. breaching the School’s terms and conditions, policies/rules in respect of assignment submissions, code of conduct, etiquette, personal presentation, confidentiality, class disruption, rudeness or acting aggressively. Disciplinary procedure will precede this action.
10 SCHOOL POLICIES
The School has comprehensive policies on discipline, grievance, equal opportunity, data protection, health & safety, assessment and moderation, to ensure maximum customer satisfaction. Further details are available from the Principal.
11 The School reserves the right to alter the course content, schedule, dates, tutors and venue in extenuating circumstances.
